Bulkington Sports Bulldogs finally
broke their duck at home with a resounding 9-0 win against
fellow strugglers Attleborough Sports Hurricanes.
However, the game was really over
before it started with Hurricanes only being able to field
eight players. Due to the shortage of Attleborough players both
teams agreed, with the referees permission, to shorten the game
to 20 minutes each way.
Bulkington kicked off and were
soon pinning the Attleborough team back into their box but some
fine saves by the Hurricanes keeper kept the Bulldogs at bay.
However, on 7 minutes the deadlock was broken with a fine solo
effort from George Lawson, who sporting a new haircut, scored
his first goal for the club. From the restart Attleborough
tried to push on but Bulkington’s advantage in number meant
that Bradley Broadaway didn’t touch the ball in the first
half.
With Bulkington playing three up
front the Attleborough defence did well to hold out for a
further 9 minutes before George Lawson scored his second. A
smart pass from Michael Martin put George through and although
the Hurricanes keeper came out to block the loose ball fell
kindly for George to score. 2-0.
The Bulkington team were now eager
to score more but both Luke Walker & Josh Lawrence
were caught offside when on a couple of occasions when through
on goal. With time running out in the first half Bulkington
scored their third when Luke put through Troy Chatland. Troy
calmly slid the ball low past the advancing keeper. 3-0.
The second half started with Shaun
Church coming on for Luke. Again Attleborough battled hard but
being so short of numbers they soon tired. On 28 minutes George
completed his hat trick showing good strength to evade a couple
of challenges on the edge of the box. 4-0.
It was now Troy’s turn to complete
his hat trick scoring another four goals in the space of nine
minutes. On 30 minutes Troy broke through on his own to score.
On 32 minutes Shaun Church ran through the midfield to pass to
Troy who had now, well & truly, found his shooting boots.
6-0. Two more goals followed with Jack Chatland passing the
ball through the middle for Troy to run on to on both
occasions. 8-0.
Great credit goes to the
Attleborough players who never let their heads go down as they
battled on bravely and in the dying minutes of the second half
they forced one or two corners but again the greater numbers in
the Bulkington team meant that the defensive trio of Matt
Olner, Chris Trevitt & Matt Randle ensured Bulkington’s
first clean sheet of the season.
With time running out Bulkington
got goal number nine when Romario Davis ran past the
Attleborough defence. His shot, just inside the box, was again
well saved but with the ball falling loose Romario chipped the
ball over for Jack Chatland to tap the ball home from close
range. 9-0.
A good win for the boys, but they
will know that next weeks game against Whitestone Sports will
be a much more difficult proposition.
